Set in the world of ants, Empires of the Undergrowth is a real-time strategy game with extensive nest building and colony management. Control armies of ants in battle against both rival colonies and other insect threats, while commanding your workers to build and supply your ever-expanding base underneath the surface.
Design your Nest
Guide your worker ants to excavate the earth and build your underground fortress. Efficient nest design is no small task – eggs and food need to flow freely throughout the nest, and soldiers should be able to reach the front lines quickly. Planning out highways and connecting corridors is key to the success of your colony.
Command your Colony
Direct your ants by the use of pheromone markers to order the gathering of resources or attacks upon enemies. Groups can be fine-tuned in their behavior, for example, passive workers can collect food even when enemies are nearby, while specialized soldiers can be instructed to ignore food, running straight toward battle. Toggling behaviors efficiently can reduce losses, speed up victory, and ultimately turn the tide of battle against a superior foe.
Battle Above and Below
Rival ant colonies pose a great threat and must be defeated, while many dangerous larger predators stalk the undergrowth seeking to make ants their prey. Threats and opportunities will come both above and below the surface, and dual minimaps allow you to view multiple underground zones so you can command several raids at once while keeping track of the action.
Conquer the Insect World
The insect world holds great variety, and both you and rival species will employ a host of unique and powerful units with stats and abilities based upon real-world science. For example, wood ants can spray formic acid from their abdomens, making them the artillery of this miniature battlefield – yet enemies need to be kept at bay with hordes of disposable melee soldiers to prevent the delicate sprayers from being overwhelmed in close quarters combat.
