The Roguelike genre is one of the more popular genres in video games in recent years. But now, a new version of the Roguelike is coming, one that takes cues from another popular gaming genre, Metroidvania. When these two mix you'll get an intense action 2D platforming Roguelike game known simply as: Dead Cells.
What makes Dead Cells so special? First, let's talk about the world itself. Just like a Metroidvania game, the entire game world is known to you from the beginning. You'll see where you can go, and know that you will eventually make it to every single room there is. But...that doesn't mean it won't be a challenge getting there.
Because in this game, there will be obstacles (plenty of them!) preventing you from reaching areas. Sometimes it'll be a physical obstacles, and other times it'll be something that needs to be removed in order to advance. You'll have to wander the world of Dead Cells to find what you need to advance. The good news is, once you get what you need, it's yours forever. How is that significant? Well...
When you die in Dead Cells? You die. Period. Permadeath is here and it's here to stay. So thus you'll have to be smart, be careful with how you approach things, and hope that you don't die. To make matters "worse" the game take procedural generation to heart by making sure that when you die, things aren't exactly how you remember them.
The action is fast and furious, the world is big and detailed, and frustration will be your greatest enemy. But if you can endure all of that, you might just enjoy Dead Cells.
