Xbox Play Anywhere Adding Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite
One of the problems with hype is that it only lasts until you view or test out the object you’re hyping up. Many video games in 2017 had a major case of “hype backlash”, where anticipation was met with disappointment in numerous aspects. One of the bigger ones to suffer from this was Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite. The latest entry from the esteemed fighting game franchise was set to make a big splash on new consoles, but instead, it flopped in many ways, leaving many disappointed.
But, Microsoft and Capcom are looking for subtle ways to salvage the situation. For on the Microsoft Store, the game is not only available for $39.99, but it’s listed as “Xbox Play Anywhere”. For those who don’t know, the “Xbox Play Anywhere” initiative is one where games can be played on Xbox One or PC by only purchasing one of the copies of the game, and your save data will transfer between each so you don’t have to start over with it.
This is a surprise to many, as the game was not touted to be coming to the service. But, given the fan and critical response to it, this may be a play to try and get more people to try it out. And it doesn’t hurt that the price is now $20 lower.
So, why did Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite fail? Well, it was several reasons. One, the visuals. While the enhanced graphics were a nice touch, the character models for characters like Chun-Li and Captain America were very…well, wrong. Two, the roster, due to the squabble between Marvel Studios and 21st Century Fox, the X-Men and Fantastic Four (among others) weren’t put into the game, which several limited the roster in many ways. Finally, the story, it was incoherent in numerous aspects.
Because of this, the title has only sold one million copies when you add up all the versions of it. We’ll see if this new status helps the sales.
