Xbox One Systems Have Sold 30 Million Units By End Of Last Year
Recently, we talked about how Microsoft had been very secretive about their Xbox One sales. In fact, they hadn’t been revealing that information for years now. Instead, they’ve been “focusing” on the interaction numbers that gamers have been having with their services like Xbox Live. This seemed a bit odd, and now, we may know the truth of the matter. For EA during a financial call revealed the actual lifetimes sales numbers of the console, and it’s not that impressive.
According to them, as noted by Variety, the Xbox One family of systems have only sold about 30 million units as of December 31st, 2017. In contrast, the PS4 family of systems has sold 73 million as of that same date. That’s 43 million units of difference between the two. Here’s another key fact, the Xbox One released its first version on November 22nd, 2013. So, that means its average yearly sales is about 7.5 million. The Nintendo Switch in one years time was about 18 million. Or even better, it’s first 9 months has about 10 million.
That’s almost shocking given how past Xbox platforms have done. Now, yes, the Xbox One X launched in November and did give a slight boost in sales, and based on what came out in early 2018 it’s fair to say that the system got another boost, however, it’s not a major one. And the X has not been doing well in all regions.
What’s the difference between these systems and how much they’ve sold? Well, it’s a topic we’ve touched on before…the games. While the Xbox did have some big titles come out in 2017, it didn’t come close to what the PS4 had, and definitely didn’t match the Switch. In fact, many of its big games were multi-platform.
As such, if Microsoft is going to bounce back and get back in the game sales wise, they need to pull something off, and soon.
