Ever since the PC platform and the consoles started getting more and more recognition, people always wondered, will mouse and keyboard support ever be added to an Xbox or PlayStation console? We are apparently getting an answer today, as the first batch of games that will have mouse and keyboard support is on their way for the Xbox One platform. Let’s find out more about how this will affect current and future developers that release their games on this console, and whether including mouse and keyboard support could cause more harm than good.
For most of us, the first thing that will pop up in your head when you combine consoles and mouse/keyboard support is how it will affect shooters. As most of us already know, it’s much easier to aim and react quickly when using a mouse than it is when using a controller. Of course, if you had a choice between these two, most would choose a mouse as it’s also much more enjoyable to play with it due to all the precision that it offers, something that is vital to shooters. This seems like a good addition to consoles, but it would also make a divide in the player base to those that would use the mouse/keyboard and those that would stick to their controllers.
Now, Microsoft is aware of this, and they plan on giving the developer guidelines which would help them determine whether giving their game mouse/keyboard support is a good or a bad call. Of course, this would also make the Xbox One function like a cheaper, less powerful version of the PC, as it doesn’t need to get upgraded like the PC does but it can run all the newest games, with a graphical disadvantage that is. This is definitely a step in the right direction for Microsoft, and we are eager to see just which games get the mouse/keyboard support first!
