WoW: Battle for Azeroth: PvP Changes

PvP is always changing in MMORPGs, as new classes, spells, and items come, changes need to be made in order to keep everything balanced. Blizzard is changing up certain PvP aspects in Battle for Azeroth. We will be taking a look at the changes being made to the Prestige System, how the War Mode is going to function, and how the Conquest Points is going to function.

Wowhead learned about these changes at the PAX Press Summit, where the expansion’s release date was also announced.

Now, let’s talk about the PvP changes. First of all, the Prestige System that was revamped in Legion was quite interesting, as it featured cosmetic rewards, a new talent tree, and other things, but one thing that the players didn’t like about it was the fact that it was bound to your character. This means that you couldn’t show off your achievements if you switched to an alt character. Players hated this, so Blizzard is making sure that Prestige gets shared by all of your characters in Battle for Azeroth. New honor talents no longer get unlocked by Prestige levels, but by normal levels, so you will have access to all of them when you get to the level cap.

PvE and PvP realms are also getting changed. Players can now decide if they want to engage in the War Mode, and if they do, they get transferred to a separate shard. When you’re in a capital city you can toggle War Mode on or off. Participating in the War Mode gives you rewards like experience or Azerite Power, but naturally, it also means that other players can attack and kill you. This system allows everyone to choose whether they want to participate in World PvP or not.

Lastly, we have Conquest Points, which are getting re-introduced to WoW. It’s a simple system, each week a player is given an amount of Conquest Points that he/she has to earn, and if you manage to fulfill that objective, you get a piece of gear. Quite a simplistic, yet effective method of acquiring gear.
