Witcher 3 director, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, leaves CD Projekt RED due to workplace bullying and toxic behavior reports.
The video game industry is toxic. That’s a well-known and sad truth that isn’t going away anytime soon. Overworking, toxic behavior, sexism, there’s a ton of it. You may think your favorite developer isn’t like this, that they’re better and treat their workers with respect.
However, the truth is far uglier than that. CD Projekt RED already dealt with severe criticism for falling back on crunch when times are hard. That’s another disgusting practice that major developers aren’t willing to give up on. Yet, some can be seen as worse. Bullying, for example.
Well, with bitterness I must report that the Witcher 3 director, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, left CD Projekt RED of his own accord. An investigation against him ended up proving he wasn’t guilty of workplace bullying, but his decision says otherwise.
In the email announcing his resignation, he said: “a lot of people are feeling fear, stress or discomfort when working with me.”, which seems like there’s a lot of truth to the accusations made against him. Hopefully, he works on his issues and comes out as a better person. Bloomberg covered this scandal in-depth on their site.
What do you think, will toxic behavior in the video game industry ever truly cease? Let me know your opinions in the comments section down below!
