Two days ago Quake Champions got a new update which added a new game mode, the Arcade, and Athena, a brand new champion.
There is also this event that rewards players for playing the new Slipgate game mode. Slipgate is an attack-and-defend mode where both teams battle over a large portal. This portal can summon a mass of horrifying tentacles, which the defending team of Elder God cultists wants to happen. The attacking team must close the gate before this ancient being comes forth.
The Slipgate Festival rewards everyone, as it is a community event. It lasts until October 31st, and if by then a million matches of Slipgate have been played, everyone gets Athena for free, or a skin for her if you’ve already unlocked her.
If you like high mobility and grappling hooks, Athena is the champion for you. She is agile, quick on her feet, and she can jump off ramps and steps with her Ramp Jump passive. But, her strength lies in her grappling hook which she can use to outmaneuver her enemies. Zip past them and get a weapon or boost when they least expect it or reach higher places for better tactical positioning.
She is very fragile, but if you know how to move, her speed will allow you to escape most dangerous situations.
Quake Champions is progressing quite nicely as a shooter. It’s getting new characters, new game modes, and events every now and then. It is still in Early Access, and we can’t wait to see what else will come to this old-school shooter in the future.
