Warframe Has Amassed 38 Million Players
There’s always a question of how successful a video game will be. Sure, something can be unique, be in a popular genre, have good graphics and gameplay, etc. But, the question is always, “will players resonate with it?” For the shooter genre, this is almost always the question, for where there are titles like Call of Duty and Battlefield, there are plenty of other bland titles that just scrape by. And then, there is Warframe, which has shattered all expectations put on it.
In case you don’t know, Warframe is a third-person shooter that has a focus on co-op gameplay. And yet, it’s so much more than that. You’ll get to become a living weapon, one that can be grown into something truly special. You’ll get to craft your own weapons, team with others to save the world, and more. The team behind the game have worked very hard on making the title special over the last five years, and the size of the player base proves how well it’s worked.
For they have announced that there are currently 38 million players in Warframe. That’s impressive on its own merits, but it’s also impressive because they’ve basically gained 7 million new players in the last year alone. Many feel that this is because of the massive expansion, The Plains of Eidolon, that was released last year. The expansion brought with it a new area to explore, new missions, and a new Warframe for players to control.
If you think this is surprising, you’re not alone, the team behind the game are surprised as well. Warframe Creative Director Steve Sinclair said “we had no expectations it would endure even half as long.”
And that’s fair, again, everyone has to wonder how well their game will do, especially ones that are meant for multiplayer focused gameplay. Still, they made it, and we think they’ll keep doing well for a while.
