Warframe Dev Up For Crossplay with Nintendo Switch
Warframe jumped back into the news the other week with the announcement that it was coming to the Nintendo Switch via port dev Panic Button. That being said, the team behind the other versions, Digital Extremes, is still the head of the project, and has to make decisions for the entirety of the playerbase, which is over 39 million players. And since a brand new system is available to play the game on, crossplay has been asked for by the gamers.
So, would Digital Extremes be up for that? Well, here’s what they said during an interview:
“Since announcing Warframe coming to the Switch, we’ve received an incredible amount of positive reception from both our community and Nintendo players,” says Digital Extremes Studio Manager Sheldon Carter in an email to TechRadar. “We’re exploring all options for people to play on and with the Nintendo Switch.”
If nothing else, they are considering it, and that’s important, no doubt.
Crossplay has been a very heated topic as of late. As while Microsoft and Nintendo fully embrace it (including making a commercial showing a gamer from each console playing together), Sony is not. In fact, they’re all but denying the process and shooting down fan questions about it.
So, if Warframe was to get crossplay, it would only be with the Switch, Xbox One, and PC. Which is a lot of options to be sure, but it will once again leave the PS4 players high and dry.
Another big topic of conversation though is about accounts. Since the game is free-to-play, and available on multiple systems, many are wondering if accounts will be allowed to transfer. The team spoke on this as well:
“Previously, when we’ve launched on other consoles, we’ve supported 1-time account migrations so that would be our starting goals for Switch as well,” Carter said.
No release date yet for the Switch version of the game.
