VR To Be A Focus For PS5? No Xbox Support?

When it comes to the game industry, one of the biggest things that publishers of all shapes and sizes try to do is predict what will be the next be “thing” in the industry. We’ve seen graphics get infinitely better, we’ve seen motion controls (both good and bad), we’ve seen dual screens, and recently, we’ve seen mobile consoles via the Nintendo Switch. So the question is, what will be the hook for the PS5 and the next Xbox system? Well, while we don’t know for sure, one dev thinks VR will play a big part.

Andrea Marinelli of Frost Earth games talked with GamingBolt recently and said that no matter what, she hopes that VR is included in some part on those systems:

“I hope they’ll be powerful enough to make sure they’ll handle really good higher resolution VR headsets, and most importantly I hope they’ll release a VR bundle with much improved VR inputs,” she said. “It would be really cool to have inputs made specifically for VR.”

Ironically enough though, she honestly only expects one of the two consoles to support VR in some capacity:

“For Sony? Probably, yes,” she continued. “They’re seeing a growing and potential market. For Microsoft, it’s hard to tell, because they seem to be ignoring VR a bit this last generation.”

It’s true that Sony has been a big supporter of VR, especially since they have their own system via the PS VR, and that device has sold a couple million units. But, Xbox doesn’t have that, and so they might not want to delve into it.

If you’re curious about Nintendo, they’ve talked about VR in the past, and noted that they aren’t interested as they don’t feel it’s a truly immersive experience in regards to playing with other people.

So what’s next for VR? Only time will tell.
