As VR continues to make its mark on the video game industry, more companies are looking to build on the foundation laid by first-person games, and Bloody Zombies looks to build on that in a rather unique way.
This particular game is a side-scrolling experience in which one player plays VR to gain the upper hand. As you plough through the walking dead with whatever you can get your hands on, you’ll be able to use VR in a free-floating camera system to gain a strategic advantage by scoping out the environment. The player using VR can seek out the stage layout, though if you don’t have VR, you won’t necessarily need it in order to play the game.
Bloody Zombies’ release date was revealed yesterday, and is set to launch on September 12th. The game will be available on Oculus, Vive and PSVR, as well or PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The methodology being used here is certainly an intelligent one from many aspects, especially if VR is going to break into mainstream gaming. With it releasing on consoles and PC as well as VR, it isn’t limiting the game to only the VR platform that many might be priced out of. Hopefully Bloody Zombies will be a catalyst for paving the way for other games to do the same thing.
