Unreleased Rayman SNES Game Now Playable
Rayman series creator Michel Ancel has made an unreleased Rayman game available with a playable demo.
The game, made for release on the SNES, was discovered last year after 24 years. Game developer Omar Cornut has since posted the game online so players can enjoy it on PC at any time. Both Cornut and Ancel have worked together on the upcoming open-world survival game Wild, leading to Cornut borrowing the cartridge of the game off Ancel. In the past, Ancel had stated that the game was playable on the SNES, but was never actually finished. When he found the prototype last year, he posted: “We thought it was lost, but somewhere in the cold electronic circuit, something was still alive. And running at full 60 FPS!”
According to sources, this game in particular featured two-player co-op play, though this was debunked by Cornut, who stated that this early build doesn’t contain the feature. Rayman didn’t release until 1995, releasing on PlayStation and Atari Jaguar. Ubisoft opted to focus on development on CD-based console systems, which possibly explains why the game never saw the light of day until now.
