Everyone is quite eager to try out Underworld Ascendant to see if it can be a worthy successor to Ultima Underworld, and there’s a launch trailer to help you decide.
The launch trailer might help you figure out what Underworld Ascendant is. Is it the game that can proudly say that it’s the spiritual successor to Ultima Underworld? Or is it just another attempt to replicate the cult classic that can never be replicated? What do you think? We aren’t really sure what to think, but this launch trailer does show some pretty interesting things. The combat looks quite solid, with many options being available to us. There is a spell in the game that reminds us of the FusRohDah shout from Skyrim. If only all games could have such a spell. As long as this title gives us interesting and fun ways to toy with our enemies, we will be happy.
Everything also looks quite spectacular. This isn’t really a title that you’re going to buy for its graphics, but the gloomy and hazy atmosphere does do a great job of making the world feel magical, dangerous, and mysterious. Underworld Ascendant doesn’t need to be everything Ultima Underworld was. But a lot of people are expecting it to be that game just made in present time. Those expectations could kill the game right at the start.
Underworld Ascendant looks like it’s going to be a pretty fun little sandbox game filled with traps, puzzles, magic, and monsters. Will it be what most people are expecting it to be? Probably not, but we’re still excited to jump in and explore this “interactive sandbox environment” as much as possible.
