UMBC Player References Fortnite After Historic Upset In NCAA Tournament

How do you celebrate a victory? Do you just live it up? Do you embrace what happened and prepare for the next battle? Or, do you let loose and show off who you really are? Well, last night, during the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, history was made. As UMBC became the first No.16 to defeat a No.1 seed in the tournament. To show how impressive that is, the record before them was 0-134. Anyway,  Nolan Gerrity, forward for the team, did an interview about his feelings, and he happened to mention Fortnite…a lot.

As you can see in the interview, he and his fellow UMBC players are big Fortnite fans, they even joke about how they were playing it before the two biggest games of their lives, their conference title game a week back, and then before the Virginia game. The majority of the team actually plays it, and they even noted how top player Ninja actually tweeted about them. And guess what? He really did.

But what really earns UMBC this article being written about is that Nolan compared the historic upset against Virginia to the first win you get in Fortnite. And while it’s true that the NCAA win is much more important and powerful…he kind of has a point.

Think about it, if you weren’t with the game at the beginning, then you’re already at a disadvantage against more experienced players, right? And so, you have to build yourself up, endure the losses, and slowly get yourself to where you find the strategy that helps you win that first game. And that’s exactly what happened here. Again, No.16 seeds had NEVER won against a No.1 seed in the history of the tournament. That’s very much a 1v100 situation, but they did it, they endured, they pushed through, and they got the win.

Well done guys.
