Ubisoft To Have Panel At GDC About Legacy Of Assassin’s Creed

Behind every video game is a story. After all, it took thought, process, and drive to make that video game, good or bad. And sometimes, the best parts about the video game are the stories that lead to its release. For example, everyone knows the story of Cuphead, or the struggles that Destiny 2 went through before its release. Then, there’s Assassin’s Creed, a series that has had many ups and downs over the years. But this year, at the Game Developers Conference, Ubisoft is going to take a special look at its franchise’s legacy.

According to the official GDC page, Ubisoft will host a panel that’ll dive deep into what Ubisoft has done with its franchise over the ten-year lifespan.

“In his presentation, Ubisoft’s Jean Guesdon will share a thoughtful deconstruction of how the brand has evolved from AC1 to AC2 to an annualized brand, across different hardware generations, through offshoots, to cross-studio co-dev, tying in books and comics and film, and how it is now being refreshed with ‘Assassin’s Creed Origins’.

Furthermore, he’ll answer questions that delve into the design for the series. In example, how the team took the game and built a larger world around it. Or they tried to grow the game without “losing what it was”. Even how they developed their development pipeline to ensure that things went more smoothly as time went on.

It’s sure to be a fascinating look at the series, and given how it went from established ground-breaking trilogy to a series that threw out titles every year until Origins, it’s going to be good to hear what happened straight from the horse’s mouth.

Assassin’s Creed Origins was a big hit for Ubisoft last year, so you know another title is coming around the bend eventually. The question now is, will they take their time with it like they did Origins?

GDC is March 19th-23rd.
