Ubisoft Continues To Tease Return Of Splinter Cell
One of the things that helps define a big publisher in the video game world is having a wide array of gaming franchises to use every generation or so. To that end, Ubisoft is one of the biggest developers out there, for they have a wide array of titles from Assassin’s Creed, Rayman (and Rabbids), The Division (which is getting a sequel), numerous Tom Clancy titles, and more. But one franchise of theirs has been very silent in the last several years, Splinter Cell.
Splinter Cell is by and large one of Ubisoft’s most popular franchises, and there have been teases all over the place that it could be coming back (its last game was Blacklist), and yet, Ubisoft refuses to fully commit to it. Case in point, a recent chat with the CCO of the company:
“I love Splinter Cell,” said Ubisoft Chief Creative Officer Serge Hascoet to Game Informer. recently “I love Prince of Persia. I can’t disclose any information at this time, but I can say we are fighting for resources. It’s not a question of will, it’s a question of means.”
To be clear, “fighting for resources” doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re struggling to make money or anything like that. 2017 AND 2018 have been very successful for the company, and with the release of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey coming, that will be another feather in their cap no doubt.
No, what they’re talking about here is having enough manpower and resources to make all the games they are wanting to make. They have teams working on Beyond Good & Evil 2, The Division 2, and possibly even more games and franchises that we don’t even know about.
So in this case, it could be that they’re truly having too many games being made to think about Splinter Cell. We’ll just have to see when that changes.
