Since Ubisoft confirmed that the extreme sports game Steep would be coming to Nintendo Switch, there has been very little news regarding the port, leading many to believe that it may have potentially been canceled. Reports coming out that the game was having a hard time being ported to the new Nintendo console hasn’t helped matters either, that Ubisoft has now put minds at rest.
In a recent Twitter post, Ubisoft stated that Steep is currently in the optimization phase, therefore isn’t running at a stable frame rate on the Nintendo Switch, hence why it hasn’t been released yet. The tweet read: “No, it’s still in the phase of optimization. The framerate plays “yo-yo” so [it’s] impossible to get it out in the current state, but the game is not [dead].”
The Nintendo Switch will host a number of exciting third-party titles as well as Steep, including FIFA 18, WWE 2K18 and many others in the future. In fact, the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy XV may even make that list, which was hinted at by the game’s director Hajime Tabata during a livestream at Gamescom 2017, where he stated that they might be bringing the popular RPG to the hybrid Nintendo console at some point.
