Ubisoft Brings Back Standard Edition Of Rainbow Six Siege After Pricing Debacle
There’s an old saying that “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” Yet, sadly, some people try and do it anyway, and often times it leads to quite the backlash. Case and point, Ubisoft yesterday revealed a bunch of new versions of Rainbow Six Siege that would be coming out in February. What was important about these was the price range of them. Gone was the “Standard Edition” that would be available for $40, and in was the “Advanced Edition” which would include a bit more, yet cost $60. Fans weren’t happy with the swap.
In fact, a lot of veteran players apparently complained about these changes and said that they wouldn’t benefit by getting rid of the Standard edition in lieu of these new ones. So, Ubisoft has issued a reply:
“Our passionate and dedicated fans are the reason why Rainbow Six Siege is a success, especially the ones who have been with us from Day 1. Following yesterday’s announcement, we have seen the frustration from our current players rise to the top of the discussion.”
So, to remedy the situation, several steps are being taken. First, the Standard Edition will remain, and will continue to be $40, which is a big move when you think about it. Second, if you play the game between now and March 6th, you’ll get a free Ash Sidewinder Elite skin. Cool, huh?
Finally, and this has been a concern for a while, the Starter Pack (which is a barebones version of Rainbow Six Siege for $15) will be getting some revisions soon as well. Ubisoft has heard the complaints about the cost of getting new Operators via this mode, so they’re going to change it. Details will come via the Rainbow Six Invitational.
All this goes to prove that if there is a true injustice (or something close to it) in gaming, gamers will rise up to fight against it.
