Ubisoft Bringing Upping Ban Policy For Rainbow Six Siege
One of the best parts about video gaming is how it evolved. Where at one time we could only play with people we know, we can now play with the masses of the world. However, that has also led to one of the worst evolutions in gaming: toxicity. Simply put, gamers from all over the world are taking advantage of their “anonymous” standings and saying very hateful and/or hurtful things at other players. Ubisoft has seen this in their community for Rainbow Six Siege, and they’re aiming to put a stop to it.
In a post on the Rainbow Six Siege subreddit, Ubisoft announced a revamping of their banning program, their goal is to stop toxicity within the community. They note:
“Starting next week, we will be implementing an improvement on the system we have been using to ban players that use racial and homophobic slurs, or hate speech, in game.”
There are four levels of bans that will be implemented based on the severity of the slur or speech. You can be banned 2 days, 7 days, 15 days, or a permanent ban. Ubisoft notes that they will be personally tracking each instance of slurs and hate speech and picking which ban is the most appropriate. And if you think they’re being unfair about this, they have laid out what qualifies as slurs or hate speech in their Code of Conduct:
“Any language or content deemed illegal, dangerous, threatening, abusive, obscene, vulgar, defamatory, hateful, racist, sexist, ethically offensive or constituting harassment is forbidden.”
Finally, if you are banned, there will be a global message that all can see that’ll say that you’ve been banned for toxicity.
Ubisoft says this is just their “first step” in trying to stop toxicity within the community, and they hope to reveal more plans soon. Let us hope they won’t need too many more for this to be deterred.
