Total War: Three Kingdoms, the next game in the Total War series made by Creative Assembly, just got a new trailer. It is in-engine footage instead of in-game footage, but it shows quite a colorful and dazzling campaign map, something that we don’t usually see in a Total War game.
The Total War franchise has always been all about historical accuracy and tactical, complex gameplay. The idea is pretty simple, build and expand an empire. Three Kingdoms is following in these footsteps, as the game is set in a period when China was split between three dynasties. The campaign map is rich with rivers which have a warm blue color. There are also dazzling green forests and brownish mountain ranges that all give the map a nice balance of colors.
Overall the map in the trailer felt like it had a lot more details than what we’re used to. The part of the trailer which shows how a city upgrade is spectacularly animated, so we wonder if the game will have this type of animation quality on all fronts. Still, a Total War game with impressive animations isn’t what the fans want, but cool animations never hurt anyone.
What we know of the game currently is that it will have two campaign modes. One that will focus on historical accuracy, and the other which is a bit more fantasy oriented where our heroes will be much more powerful than ordinary men.
Total War: Three Kingdoms is coming next year. Are you excited for this title? We think it looks interesting enough, so we will check it out once it launches.
