Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Coming Back?
It’s always a good thing to have a lot of good video game franchises under your banner. Because of those, you have options on what you can do in the next year or so. However, after a while, it’s natural for developers and publishers to want to take a break from certain game series, even if the player base still wants the title to come out. For Ubisoft, this is what happened with Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell series. The stealth series was once a prominent part of the lineup, but now, not so much.
The last game in the series was Blacklist, which was, in fact, a reboot of sorts as it was the first game to not star Michael Ironside as Sam Fisher. But that was basically 5 years ago, and there hasn’t been a hint of Splinter Cell since. That is, until now, where an Amazon listing says that a 2018 title is coming. Here’s the listing:
Now, yes, this doesn’t confirm anything, and Amazon has had listings put it in error before, it happens. However, there have been a lot of rumors stating that Splinter Cell is really coming back. What’s more, an “insider” said that he had spoken to Michael Ironside himself and was told that not only was the actor coming back to be Sam Fisher, that they were doing work on the game now. That reveal was in 2016, and now this listing is here, so…maybe Ubisoft is almost done with the game?
Given that Ubisoft has a press conference at E3, it’s very possible that they might reveal it there, and have it release later in the year. Not unlike what Bethesda did with Fallout 4 a while back.
Ubisoft themselves have said that they haven’t forgotten the series, it’s just that they want to make sure there’s a market for it.
