Todd Howard Won’t Even Tell His Son About Next Elder Scrolls Game
One of the biggest, yet most fun, problems with being a video game developer is that when you make a near masterpiece of a game…you’re expected to top it. And then some. This is a problem that the team at Bethesda have to deal with all the time, yet, they rise to the challenge more often than not. Fallout 3 was great, and Fallout 4 was even better in many peoples eyes. The same goes with the Elder Scrolls franchise via Oblivion and Skyrim.
Yet, despite all the praise and sales for Skyrim, and even bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch, a first for the franchise, there has been no word or hint about a sequel to the game. Now, Bethesda is known to keep things close to the chest, but it’s been years since Skyrim, so the players can’t help but wonder, is it really being made? And when would we find out about it?
Turns out, we’re not the only ones’ curious about this. Todd Howard, one of the developers of the Elder Scrolls games at Bethesda, revealed to the AIAS Game Maker’s Podcast that his son also asks questions about this:
“He’s like, ‘OK, when is Elder Scrolls 6 coming?’” Howard revealed. “And I’m like, ‘I’m not gonna talk about that right now either.’ He’s like, ‘Can I give you my ideas? Can I work on it? Come on, tell me a few things, I’m not going to tell anybody.’ I’m like, ‘Well, you might, so I’m not gonna say anything.’ But it’s great – I think a lot of kids want to get into video games. If you’re a creator, I kinda want my own sons to find their own way, as opposed to, ‘Yes, you should absolutely make games.’”
See that nice segway? Diverting the attention? Howard is an expert at it for sure. So, what does this mean? Well, you could say that he confirms it’s being made, but as for when we’ll hear about it. That’s still unclear.
