THQ was once considered to be one of the biggest publishers and developers in the gaming industry. You may remember their licenses for games such as the Saints Row franchise and a string of WWE games, and once upon a time everything was looking up. However, after a crushing failure of a drawing tablet and poor game sales, THQ went bankrupt. From here, their properties were sold off and their legacy went with it.
Now, there is more than a light at the end of the tunnel for the company. Nordic entertainment has managed to acquire several video game licenses, before rebranding themselves as THQ Nordic in 2016. From here, a new company was built to bring back a mix of past and new titles, leading to a brand new and prosperous legacy. Said legacy may now have become full circle, after managing to acquire Koch Media.
Koch Media serves at the home of Deep Silver games which includes a catalog such as Saints Row, Dead Island and Metro, making THQ Nordic a force to be reckoned with. ResetEra has allegedly revealed that THQ Nordic are paying out 121 million Euros to acquire the company, which will see them receive all of their properties. Considering that Koch Media is valued at 91 million Euros, it’s definitely an eye-watering sale.
Fingers crossed that after the history they’ve had, THQ Nordic can push on and be one of the major players in the industry.
