The Witcher Casting Causing Fan Outrage On Twitter
The Witcher franchise started out as a popular book series, and then was bought by CD Projekt Red to become a popular video game trilogy. And now, Netflix is set to adapt some of the books into an 8-episode series (with potentially more). Henry Cavill has already been cast as Geralt of Rivera, but news about who might be looked for in regards to Ciri has gotten a bit of unrest in the Twitter universe.
Basically, Ciri, who is a main character and is described in the books as having white skin and hair, is apparently being cast as a women of color. To some, this is a showing of diversity, to others, it’s an “insult” to the clear character descriptions in the book:
Look, the characters are described to have a certain appearance in the Novels and games. Why change it if it adds no value just to pat oneself on the back for being so inclusive, woke and liberal. Netflix would only do it for investor money, not because they actually care.
Others are in more support of the change:
So much love to you. Though I’ve been surprised from what has been revealed so far, I like it. I want to be surprised. I want to have something NEW to look forward to. Sending all the good thoughts and vibes and creative juju your way. YOU GOT THIS!
Regardless of what side you’re on, there has been one casualty of this reveal…the showrunner, who is going on a “Twitter Hiatus” to help go make The Witcher series.
It’s time for a Twitter hiatus. The love here is amazing, and the hate is enlightening, like a real-life Trial of the Grasses, except I HAVE to read less and write more — or we won’t have a damn finale. Be back soon with more insight and more Roach. Be nice to each other, okay?
No date for The Witcher Netflix series has been set yet.
