The Outer Worlds 2 decided to make its announcement trailer a breakdown which makes fun of every cinematic announcement trailer in the world.
Cinematic trailers use a lot of cheap tricks to hype up the audience. Slowmo gunfire, lens flares, the glaring and triumphant “thummmm” sound as the camera zooms back, revealing our character facing a huge and stunning world.
It’s the basics, and The Outer Worlds 2 announcement trailer pokes fun at all of it. It’s perfect satire considering Obsidian Entertainment did as a joke what a lot of devs do today completely seriously; announce a game that isn’t even 10% complete with a useless cinematic trailer. Let’s just hope this self-awareness translates into the sequel well. Check out the cinematic trailer below:
The first Outer Worlds game didn’t really do it for me. It was too tame and mediocre. I never expected Obsidian Entertainment to play it safe, but they did. In conclusion, the result was a solid, yet disappointing game that didn’t live up to its potential. Yet, many others enjoyed it a lot. Perhaps they kept their expectations low.
Will The Outer Worlds 2 play it safe again? Or will it be more bold and daring this time around? What do you think? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section down below!
