The Division 2 Has Been Announced
The Division was originally announced many years ago (2013 to be exact), and after that announcement, it became stuck in development. Eventually, developer Ubisoft made it all work out for the most part and released the game in 2016. However, upon its release, though it was mostly well received, the game was very buggy and had many other issues that would need to be worked out throughout the following year. But, Ubisoft made it work, and the game slowly became stable, and loaded with content, and the gamers started coming back to it again.
Fast forward to now, two years after the release of the first one, Ubisoft revealed via a Twitch stream that The Division 2 is coming. Not too many details were given, but, we know that it will run on an updated version of the Snowdrop engine (which ran the original game), and that Ubisoft Annecy, Redstorm, Reflections, Ubisoft Bucharest and Ubisoft Shanghai will help make the game. We apparently can also expect more details at E3 2018.
During the stream, Creative director Julian Gerighty noted that the sequel will take “everything we learned over the past two years and applying it towards the sequel to make sure we get it right.”
With respect to them, that’s quite a challenge, as we noted above, The Division was incredibly buggy at release, and well beyond. That’s not saying they can’t do it right at launch, but it will be a challenge for sure.
The real question though is how much content will be available at launch? Many think that the original game only got really good once certain DLC like the Undergrounds, Survival, and Last Stand content was released, could we expect that in the sequel? It’s hard to say at present.
Given that E3 2018 is only a few months away, we may not have to wait too long for an answer.
