Recently, we saw the unveiling of the long-awaited Overwatch character Doomfist. Yet one question still remained – why wasn’t Terry Crews the voice behind the character?
Fans were left perplexed when Blizzard decided not to side with fan requests and bring the popular actor to the shooter in the form of the rocket-smashing mercenary, with many believing he would have been perfect for the role.
There was method to the madness however, when it came to choosing Sah Ngaujah for the role of Doomfist. This is something that was outlined in a recent interview conducted with Blizzard Senior Designer Michael Chu, who pointed out why Crews wasn’t chosen for the role:
“We love Terry. Terry’s awesome. He came and visited us. We had a great time. But when we were looking for Doomfist, we were looking for something very specific given his role in the game and everything. When we were early in the audition process, we heard Sahr, who’s the actor who plays Doomfist, and he just blew us away immediately. Once we heard his voice, it was like, ‘Holy crap. That’s Doomfist.’”
Chu continued to emphasize how well Sahr brings the character to life with the flavor that he brings to the role. Sahr was a great pick for the job, though many will be hoping that Crews will play a role somewhere down the line.
Sad, but understandable.
