Telltale’s The Walking Dead Saved By Robert Kirkman
A true tragedy was set to unfold in the world of gaming, as Telltale Games was closing down, and all the projects that they had in store for the future was going away. While this was sad on many levels, the biggest “hit” by far was going to be the loss of The Walking dead gam series. Because unlike the others, this series was literally in the middle of its final season, with just two episodes to go, and yet because of the closure of the studio, those games were canceled…until Robert Kirkman stepped in.
Kirkman is the creator of The Walking Dead, and not only writes the comic, but also helps out with the TV shows based on his property. He had been teasing something might be happening on his side of things at New York Comic-Con, and then, at the panel for Walking Dead, he said this:
“I have to go rogue for a moment,” Kirkman said during the NYCC panel. “I got word just before we came out here that…we’ve successfully negotiated with Telltale Games…for our company Skybound to come in and see Season 4 of the Telltale game to completion. We can’t lose Andrew Lincoln and Clementine in the same year.”
Needless to say, the crowd was thrilled about this, and the internet at large is breathing a sigh of relief because the game is not dead. For all of Telltales faults, they had done a good job in creating this unique character in the form of Clementine, and gamers wanted to see her get the ending she deserved. Or at the very least, see what ending she got. So now, we’ll actually get that chance.
To be fair though, given that Skybound wasn’t the original creator of these guys, it could take a little while for the final two episodes to be done. But at least they will be done.
