TellTale’s The Walking Dead series were there games that really helped put them on the map. It was where many got to see the episodic game style that they’re now known for, and it proved that you could take an established franchise and put a noteworthy spin on it while still maintaining what the series is about. But, as in all things, everything must come to an end. And TellTale announced earlier that Walked Dead Season 04 would be the end of the story of the girl we know as Clementine.
Today, the first trailer of The Walking Dead’s final season arrived, and it beautifully shows off what the series has been about, kids having to deal with a world that isn’t their own anymore. Though it’s hard to know when exactly this trailer takes place within the upcoming season, it does show Clementine back with AJ, who she took care of for some time before being separated in Season 03.
At the end of Season 03, Clementine left her new friends to go and find AJ, and she clearly accomplished that goal. But what sets this trailer apart is that though it starts out simply and beautiful with both singing “Row Row Row Your Boat”, it soon becomes a topic about “monsters”, and how AJ can’t remember a time when monsters didn’t exist. He was born into a world of zombies, and that makes him very sad.
The talk about the “rules” was also very poignant, as not only does AJ now have a gun of his own, he knows what to do with it when the time comes. And quite chillingly, the trailer cuts out when Clementine asks, “Now, what do you do if I get bit?”
The trailer also gave us the release date of the first episode, August 4th, while also noting it would be coming to Nintendo Switch before the end of the year.
