TellTale Games Laying Off Most Of Their Staff
TellTale Games has been a part of the gaming community for some time now, and their episodic titles have been ones that have helped the gaming community in many ways. From Walking Dead, to Batman, to Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones, Borderlands, and even a potential Stranger Things game, they were all quality. And all were anticipated when announced or revealed to be getting new seasons. However, a sad twist of fate has hit the studio, as TellTale has announced that they are laying off most of their staff.
The following statement was made by the company:
“Today Telltale Games made the difficult decision to begin a majority studio closure following a year marked by insurmountable challenges,” began their Twitter post. “A majority of the company’s employees were dismissed earlier this morning, with a small group of 25 employees staying on to fulfill the company’s obligations to its board and partners.”
Pete Hawley, the CEO of Telltale Games, made this statement following the announcement:
“It’s been an incredibly difficult year for Telltale as we worked to set the company on a new course. Unfortunately, we ran out of time trying to get there. We released some of our best content this year and received a tremendous amount of positive feedback, but ultimately, that did not translate to sales. With a heavy heart, we watch our friends leave today to spread our brand of storytelling across the games industry.”
But sadly, the bad news appears to not end there. For reports are surfacing that the games that they were planning to make, including the final few episodes of their Walking Dead franchise, aren’t going to be made at all. Which would leave the series at a cliffhanger barring someone else finishing it, which wouldn’t be a good idea for consistency sake.
We’ll keep you updated on the situation.
