TellTale Games Explains Pulling Of The Walking Dead’s Final Season
TellTale Games has been in the news a lot recently, and all for the wrong reasons. The company had to lay off 75% of its staff recently because the company basically went broke. And outside of MineCraft: Story Mode, they aren’t working on anything else. This includes the final season of their beloved Walking Dead franchise, which was only two episodes away from completing the story they set out to tell. But now, not only have they not finished it, they’re pulling the season as a whole from stores so players can’t buy it.
This seemed like an odd move, and one that all but confirms that the company won’t be able to finish the game barring someone else completing it. Many sites, including Polygon, reached out to them for comment, and they replied saying:
“Yes, we have removed season passes for The Walking Dead: The Final Season from stores for the time being. We’re currently still working to find a way to hand off production of episodes 3 and 4 so that the season can be completed. The outcome of those efforts will determine when and how The Final Season returns to stores. We hope to have a firm announcement before the end of the week. For now, we apologize for any inconvenience.”
So at the very least, for now, no one will be able to get the game again outside of sites who haven’t taken it down. As ironic as it may sound, TellTale Games has actually bigger problems than the fate of The Walking Dead. Due to their sudden shutdown, and the events leading up to it, the now former members of the dev studio are filing a class action lawsuit against TellTale in order to get the pay and benefits that were literally cut out from under them upon their release.
So the fate of Walking Dead is seriously in doubt right now.
