Steam somehow managed to break another concurrent players record as soon as 2021 started, reaching 25 million players.

How long has Steam dominated the digital distribution industry when it comes to video games? For a long while? It’s a titan in the industry and one that constantly manages to impress with its numbers. The last time I talked about it was when we covered which games made the most money on Steam in 2020. Today, however, the subject is a bit different. Since the global pandemic is still not resolved, a lot of people are staying home and playing games. I covered this in March 2020 when Steam broke its concurrent players record. The broken record then was 20 million people. Quite a large number, with 6.2 million being online then.

Now, Valve’s giant grows into an even bigger monstrosity as it absorbs more people and their hours of gaming. Steam breached its previous concurrent players record in 2021 and it is 25.4 million as of now. You can expect this number to go up, as the previous record was set a couple of weeks ago with 24 million. The number of gamers is rising exponentially, and it’s starting to show.
