State Of Decay 2 Team Loves Working With Microsoft
Of the Big 3 in console, Microsoft has been getting a bit of a bad name when it comes to console exclusives. Especially since they don’t have that many in the first place, and two of the bigger ones that were meant to come out soon got canceled. One of which, Scalebound, almost forced Platinum Games to close, yet Microsoft kept the rights to the game itself. Which fans did not appreciate. However, that doesn’t mean that everyone isn’t happy with the publisher, the team behind State of Decay 2, Undead Labs, for example is happy with them.
CEO Jeff Strain talked with Gamespot and noted that making State of Decay 2 for Xbox and PC just felt natural.
“They own the name and the specific incarnation of it. Microsoft backed a game that nobody in their right mind should have touched,” said Strain. “We talked to them from the very beginning. I mean, we’re in Seattle, they’re in Redmond. I knew that I wanted to build a great console game and a great PC game, and it just made sense to work with them.”
So, some talks were had, and apparently, everything went well enough that the game was greenlit:
“So we came up with this grand vision for what this thing could be, and to their great credit, the folks at Microsoft said yeah, let’s give it a go. And so they’ve been a good partner and as long as we’re making State of Decay games, Microsoft will be our partner in that.”
There you have it, a dev that’s happy with the way things are going in regards to their relationship with Microsoft. Still, fans are hopeful that more things get made or released soon, as the 1st party section of the consoles game library is pretty barren as of late.
