When you think about certain consoles, it’s hard not to think about the video games and the video game characters that helped define that generation. When Sony was launching its PlayStation, it needed games to help cement itself as a power player in the console market. And it did with characters like Crash Bandicoot, who recently got a trilogy remake that was very successful. However, there was another key character that helped make the console a success, Spyro the Dragon. And now, he’s getting a remastered trilogy as well.
After months of teasing, Spyro Reignited Trilogy has been announced, and has even gotten a reveal trailer. Here’s the official breakdown of the game:
The original roast master is back! Same sick burns, same smouldering attitude, now all scaled up in stunning HD. Spyro is bringing the heat like never before in the Spyro™ Reignited Trilogy game collection. Rekindle the fire with the original three games, Spyro™ the Dragon, Spyro™ 2: Ripto’s Rage! and Spyro™: Year of the Dragon.
Now, while the original trilogy of Spyro games were made by Insomniac Games, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy is coming to you from Toys For Bob. Who, ironically, helped make the last Spyro game in the Skylanders saga. It should be noted though that the dev team have sent builds to Insomniac for feedback to make sure they maintain the spirit of the series.
While the graphics will be getting a major boost, the remastered games will be getting upgraded elsewhere too. Including the original soundtrack. A new version of the tracks from the three original games are going to be made. What’s more, the Toys For Bob team are working with many of the original voice actors to give a new and fresh feel to the lines from the game. And if you’re wondering, Tom Kenny will be the voice of Spyro for the whole trilogy in the remaster.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy will arrive on PS4 and Xbox One on September 21st.
With some luck, we might have it released on steam some time later!
