Splitgate received an insanely large wave of new players that overwhelmed the servers so the devs delayed the release date to increase server capacity.
Splitgate’s Early Access launch went largly unnoticed. A cross between Halo and Portal sounds insane, so it’s strange people didn’t hop into the game as soon as it became available. Yet, once the devs launched the beta with crossplay capabilities for Xbox and PlayStation consoles the flood arrived.
A crazy amount of people started playing at the same time, crashing the game’s servers. Going from 4k to 100k players is a lot to handle. And Splitgate’s servers couldn’t handle that so the devs worked their asses off to increase the server capacity.
They’re doing a fine job right now, with server and game crashes brought to a minimum. Alas, the Splitgate devs delayed the game’s original release date to prepare better. Splitgate was supposed to launch yesterday, on July 27th, but now they’re aiming for an August release. They even got a $10 million boost to increase both their dev team and server capacity.

What do you say, is this arena shooter going to be the biggest competition for Halo Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer mode?
