Sony Feels That Exclusive Content Is Most Important
There are numerous factors that lead into someone getting a video game console. Who makes it, the price, and of course, the games on it. But more than anything else, it’s the promise of what games might come next that draws people to the table. They want to know that they’ll be playing this system with a bunch of new titles for a long time to come. And often times, they look towards exclusive titles for a system as a huge selling point. And Sony totally understands that.
In fact, the head of Sony Italy, Marco Saletta, noted in an interview with Twinfinite that despite certain trends, exclusive games are what can’t be beat:
“There have been trends that helped the adoption of the platform over the years: the exclusives on which we worked in a timely manner shown that this is the way to go,” he said. “Exclusive content is the way to go to improve. I think we still have a few years ahead of us for PS4, and we’ll work both in engaging the community that already owns the console and to invite new consumers within our world.”
This of course led to the question about singleplayer vs multiplayer experiences, which has been a very hot topic in recent years given the amazing games on both sides. Saletta feels that it doesn’t matter which side of the fence it’s on as long as it’s good content:
“Again, the real topic is content: we had highly-successful releases like God of War and Spider-Man in Italy last year, and those are traditional single-player games. That being said, I can tell you that the engagement we have on titles like FIFA or Fortnite in our country is absolutely respectable even compared to other European countries. Our guiding light is content.”
Sony definitely seems to have their vision set, we’ll see where it goes from here.
