Skyrim VR Doing Well In The UK

Skyrim is one of the defining games of the last generation. The open-world majesty of it all combined with loads and loads of content allowed players to truly enjoy the game for hundreds of hours, if not more. The game is so loved that it’s been ported, remastered, and given new life many times over. But it didn’t stop there, for when new devices came out, Bethesda decided to do the same thing again, this time though, for a mobile platform, and a VR one.

For on the 17th of this month, Skyrim released on both the PlayStation VR, and the Nintendo Switch. In fact, it launched on the same day. And because of that, there’s a bit of a competition going on as to which version would do better. While we don’t have the exact numbers, UploadVR does note though that in the UK at least, the opening week of sales went to the VR version.

During the week that ended on the 18th, Skyrim VR apparently placed 19th on the GFK games charts, whereas the Nintendo Switch version ended up in the 26th slot. Very impressive for two days. However, there are some caveats here. First, the VR version had a special bundle version that came out that knocked off the price of the headset and the game, which made it a heck of a deal, so that helped for sure.

The other thing of note, however, is that the digital sales for the game are not accounted for this. And the Switch has done rather well in the digital games market, so if those sales had been included, it might have turned out a bit differently.

Either way though, these two releases were huge for Bethesda, and hopefully, once all the final numbers are complete, they’ll feel some satisfaction for doing these versions.
