Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Gets ESRB Rating
FromSoftware is the studio known for the Dark Souls franchise, as well as their spinoff of sorts in Bloodborne. But now, they’re preparing for the release of a game that is a bit different from those two. It’s called Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and though it will no doubt have all the brutality and epic challenge of the Souls and Bloodborne game, it will have some unique differences to set it apart. And now, the game has gotten its official rating from the ESRB.
The rating is as follows:
“This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of a disgraced shinobi on a quest to rescue his kidnapped lord in ancient Japan,” the ESRB’s rating said. “Players use swords and a prosthetic arm to battle members of an enemy clan and supernatural demons in frenetic combat. Large blood-splatter effects occur as enemies are killed; some attacks result in decapitation and/or dismemberment. Cutscenes depict additional acts of violence: a man impaled through the chest with a sword; a child stabbed with a sword off screen.”
So as you can see, FromSoftware isn’t holding back on what they know best, bringing some of the most epic violence to video games that they can in their own stylized way. But, because this takes place in 15th century Japan, this gives them some new things to play with, including a more realistic setting than Dark Souls or Bloodborne. It also means that we’ll have more human enemies, though as the rating shows, there are going to be demon enemies.
What might be the biggest question mark about Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is how the fans will respond to it as a game in full. Yes, it’s by FromSoftware, but that doesn’t mean many will pick it up. And many have been hoping for Bloodborne 2, which was recently confirmed to not be happening.
