Players will be able to take to the high seas in the early months of 2018 when Sea of Thieves finally launches. To make sure that we see as many pirates as possible out there, the good folks at Rare are looking to push the boat out (no pun intended) to make sure as many players can experience the game.
This will be achieved by making the swashbuckling adventure available on the widest range of hardware as possible. It will support 4K and 60 FPS on PC, but will also cater to the lower end, though the minimum requirements have yet to be announced. Suffice to say, they will be pretty low, given that the developers want to be able to support 540p resolution and 15 FPS on PC.
This seems like a great move by Rare. It isn’t easy missing out on games simply because their requirements are too high, particularly in this day and age where there is so many high quality games.
Regardless of how you play it, executive producer Joe Neate believes that everyone will be able to enjoy Sea of Thieves: “We’re trying to go as low as possible. We have an idea of what the minimum specs are but aren’t quite ready to reveal them. We’ve actually been inviting people below our current plan for minimum specs into the technical alpha so we can test a number things on the performance side. This game looks so great regardless of the device you’re playing on.”
Sea of Thieves is set for release on Xbox One and PC in 2018.
