Sea Of Thieves Has Hit 2 Million Players
There’s a lot of risk in making a new IP, especially when that new IP comes from an established developer who hasn’t had the best luck of late. Rare is known for many titles, but a majority of them lie in its past. So when they announced Sea of Thieves, a MMO title of all things, people were honestly skeptical, and for good reason. However, it’s now been a week since the launch of the game, and according to Microsoft, the title is doing very well for itself.
How well? Well, in an official post, it was revealed that Sea of Thieves already has 2 million players on it. Not bad for a week on a new IP. Also, they’re claming that it’s “Microsoft’s fastest-selling new IP of the current generation” as well as the best-selling first-party title on Windows 10.
What’s more, the game is apparently doing very well on streaming sites, to which Rare is very grateful:
Thank you to all the content creators and community who have streamed Sea of Thieves and entertained viewers with their creativity and sense of fun as it jumped into the number one slot on Twitch and Mixer several times this past week.
But wait, there’s more! The game itself is built upon the notion that only united can you truly get stuff done. And to that end, over 500,000 Xbox Live friendships have been made during the week of the game’s launch. Clearly, these pirates like each other.
Now, that being said, there are currently issues with Sea of Thieves that players have been more than happy to note. One of which is a content issue, as in there’s not much to do at points. The other is that the game can be hard to connect to, and has lots of bugs. Rare has promised to fix all of this, and if these players remain, it might just be worth it to stay on.
