Civilization VI was already a massive game when it first came out in 2016. The team behind it built an all-new engine just for the game to ensure that it could both look amazing (and it does) while also maintaining the new aspects of gameplay designed to keep the game fresh (it did). And now, the game is set to get a massive expansion in Rise and Fall, which will bring even more twists to the gameplay, as well as new nations to play as. Including Scotland.
That’s right, Scotland, and this version of the great nation is going to be led by Robert The Bruce, the man who helped lead Scotland to its independence against the English. He’s revered for his bravery and strength, but also, for always have Scotland and its people in mind when he made decisions.
As a nation, their special ability is “Scottish Enlightenment”, where they’ll get special science and industry bonuses if their cities are happy. Speaking of happy cities, Scotland’s special building is the Golf Course! Yep, golf! And using it will bring happiness, gold, culture, and special bonuses if lined up against an entertainment district.
As for Scotland’s unique unit, they get the Highlander (there can be only one…until you make another! lol). This unit is a reconnaissance unit, and thus will replace the Ranger. If you have this unit battling in forests or hilly terrain, it’ll receive a combat bonus.
In regards to Robert The Bruce himself, he has an ability called BannockBurn, which will allow him to declare a war of liberation after learning the skill Civic. Once he does, his units will get a damage and range boost in the first few turns of the war.
Scotland is a very unique and diversified civ, will you use them to win the game? You’ll find out when Civilization VI: Rise and Fall releases February 8th.
