Riot Games Responds To League Of Legends “Woes”
League of Legends is, and has been, one of the most popular games in the world, and that’s mainly because of the team at Riot Games. They work hard to keep the game fresh, balanced, and fun. And though they are doing that job for the most part, many people aren’t happy with the developer, and not because of balancing issues. Many reports are coming out about Riot, and they don’t paint the developer in a positive light.
Furthermore, they’re claiming that League of Legends is declining in numbers, and that Riot Games is having issues with their owner Tencent. Riot’s Nicolo Laurent released a statement debunking these claims, stating:
“Tencent has believed in us since our early days, and together we’ve collaborated to bring League of Legends to players around the world. And we’re just getting started. We love Tencent as a partner, publisher, and owner. There have been times where there were tensions between us—including [Arena of Valor]—but we worked through those. We have an incredibly strong relationship built on collaboration and a shared vision for what we can do for players.
Now, as for how League of Legends is doing in terms of its numbers, he had this to say about it:
“We always expect players’ relationships with League to ebb and flow, like it does with any game. League is down from its peak, but still doing incredibly well by any metric except its own very high watermark. We’re excited to bring new games (yes “s”) to players soon and have no plans to slow down on League now or ever.”
So it seems that Riot Games isn’t concerned with the numbers, or any tension with Tencent at the moment. We’ll just have to wait and see if this holds, or if something else is actually going on.
