Even though Resident Evil 7 had a slow start it managed to rack up over 7.9 million sold units since it launched in 2017.
Resident Evil 7 was a title that was quite strange. It wasn’t all that focused on intense shooting action with waves of monsters. Instead, it took a slow-burn approach with a character that’s stuck in a family house with a rather unfriendly family. Tense, eerie, stressful, and incredibly fun to play. A horror game that was unconventional and quite impactful, so fans ended up loving it. Then it should come to no surprise that Resident Evil 7 ended up selling 7.9 million units. Now, while that is a lot, it isn’t even close to Capcom’s number 1 title in terms of sales. Monster Hunter: World sold 16.1 million units. So even though the Resident Evil franchise together beats that number, no singular title comes close.
Other Resident Evil games also proved that they’re absolute hits. Resident Evil 5 sold 7.7 million units, Resident Evil 6 sold 7.6 million units, and the Resident Evil 2 Remake sold 7.2 million units. It’s safe to say that Capcom is doing quite well, so I’m quite excited to know more about Resident Evil 8, which may arrive in 2021.
