Resident Evil 2 Will Have Separate Campaigns To Prevent “Zapping”
One of the big announcements from the Sony campaign at last weeks E3 2018 was that Resident Evil 2 was going to be getting a full-on remake. Not only would it have enhanced graphics and gameplay features, but Capcom also noted that the game would be getting two entirely separate campaigns. In the original game, you would play as either Leon S. Kennedy, or Claire Redfield. You will do the same here, but unlike the original, you won’t bounce back and forth between them.
This comes from the games’ producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, who told Rely on Horror:
“One of the great things about the original was this sort of two character system where you could get a different perspective on events. Either as Leon the rookie cop, or Claire as a student—the ‘zapping’ system as it was known where there was A parts and B parts to each character.
He went on:
“We still want to replicate that feeling of seeing two sides to the same story through both character’s perspective in their own way. So for that reason we have a Leon campaign and a Claire campaign, they’re separate and you can choose which one you want to play first.”
This will be one of the many ways that the game will try refine what the original title did. As you can see from the pictures, the game looks stunningly rendered on the PS4, and it’ll only get better as the game gets closer to release.
Resident Evil 2 holds a special place in the hearts of fans of the franchise because this was the beginning of the story of Leon S. Kennedy, and it was the game that introduced Raccoon City as a whole. So the remake coming to the PS4 is a big win for fans, as well as for those who haven’t gotten to play the game yet.
