Reggie Fils-Aime Emphasizes Wide Net Approach To Smash Bros DLC
It’s been an important week for Nintendo and one of its leaders, Reggie Fils-Aime, mainly because of both The Game Awards announcing some brand new titles for the Nintendo Switch, and then, the next day came and released Super Smash Bros Ultimate, which pretty much everyone is enjoying. Many compliments have been given to the roster, which is not only expanded with new characters, but also, have had much of its main roster improved in interesting ways. And there are still five characters to arrive in DLC, bringing the total to 80 characters.
The first of these DLC characters is Joker from Persona 5, and Nintendo shocked many by revealing him. You see, while the Persona series has been on Nintendo systems in the past in various ways, Persona 5 is not on the Switch, so Joker himself hasn’t been on a Nintendo platform. This breaks the “one rule” of 3rd party character inclusion. But according to Reggie Fils-Aime, this is all part of the plan.
For he noted the following in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
“Each character will come with a stage and a collection of music. You can buy them individually or you can buy them in a fighter’s pass, so all five for effectively, in the U.S., $24.99. So, that’s going to be the DLC. The reason it was so important to showcase Joker was really to help the player understand that the net has been cast very wide for the different new fighters who will enter Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. From that perspective, it’s going to be very exciting. As it gets closer to the launch of the next fighter we’ll reveal that, so stay tuned for that.”
This “wide net” approach has got the gaming community buzzing, making them believe that just about any character out there (within reason) could be next in the reveal slate.
