Red Dead Redemption 2 Has Biggest Entertainment Opening Ever
There are times in gaming when a big title is set to arrive and you know that it’s going to do well. Whether it’s because it’s done well in past with previous releases, gamers are always excited about the dev teams titles, the hype for the game is huge, and most importantly, it’s a highly-anticipated game. Regardless of the reason, you know it’s going to be big, and so, you expect big sales numbers. This was definitely the case for Red Dead Redemption 2, and it did not disappoint.
For in a press release that was sent out to many places, including Business Wire, it was revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 had the biggest 3-day opening in entertainment history.
“Rockstar Games is proud to announce that the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2 has achieved the single-biggest opening weekend in the history of entertainment. With over $725 million in worldwide retail sell-through during its first three days, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the second-highest grossing entertainment launch of all time next to Rockstar Games’ previously released title, Grand Theft Auto V, which achieved over $1 billion in retail sell-through in three days.”
That’s an impressive feat no matter which way you want to slice it. For a game to do that well in any scenario is unbelievable in numerous ways. And now Rockstar Games can say that they have the two biggest openings in gaming and entertainment history.
Of course, the big question is, “How much did they actually sell?” Well, Rockstar Games didn’t give that number. But most conservative estimates places the sales of the game to AT LEAST 10 million. If that seems a little low given the number, remember, this is a low-ball estimate, it’s likely more in the 12-13 million range. Plus, there were special additions and bonus bundles, so those skewer some of the numbers too.
Either way, this game is a hit in every way.
