Did The Recent Fortnite FPS Bump Hurt Gameplay?
Video games are very hard to make, just ask anyone who has ever tried to make one. But one of the hardest parts is trying to fix or improve aspects of the game without affecting other systems. It’s very much a balancing act. For what good is adding a new weapon…if it literally breaks the world around it? Like in the bad way, we mean. Or, in the case of Fortnite, what good is making the game run at a high framerate…if certainly gameplay functions are affected?
Cause that’s exactly what happened on the Xbox One version of the game. They finally were able to run Fortnite at 60 FPS, something that players have been wanting for a while. Yet, when players turned the game to that setting, they noticed some oddities. Mainly, they noticed that the jump height of characters were much lower than they were before. If you don’t believe us, check out this subreddit, which has a video showing exactly that.
So definitive is this proof that Epic Games themselves have chimed in and revealed that they are investigating this, so we could get a remedy to the situation very soon. It just goes to show that even a somewhat simple and necessary improvement to the game can have unforeseen consequences on other parts of the game.
Even with this issue, Epic Games shouldn’t be panicking too much, Fortnite is still doing very well among players. In fact, its concurrent player rate is higher than PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, its main competitor. What’s more, they’ve been doing a good job of adding new content to the game, including the new “Year of the Dog” content that recently arrived.
Add to that, Epic Games has been keeping the title fresh with new game modes, new fun weapons to use, and much more.
