Rare Talks About Sea Of Thieves Launch And Future
Sea Of Thieves launched earlier this year on Xbox One and PC, and from the getgo, it was met with some serious criticism. On one hand, it was a fun pirate adventure, and the ability to team up with friends and random allies to run a ship, get treasure, have battles, and more was pretty fun. However, the fun was short-lived, as the content itself for the game was pretty slim, and players were begging for more content. And while Rare has given some new content and updates, fans still want more.
So, what does Rare think about all of this? Well, in an interview with Windows Central, executive producer Joe Neate noted:
“Ultimately we’ve had a successful launch of Sea of Thieves,” he said. “Getting more players than we expected. We took a little time getting the servers stabilized and so on. We came out of the gate strong, and now, our opportunity and focus is making Sea of Thieves a success longer term. Let’s keep acquiring new players, let’s engage the players that have played. We’re doubling down, tripling down on the number of people working on the game, the amount of content we want to add. We hear the feedback, we’ve talked openly I think regarding top feedback points, addressing private, closed crews and so on.
He went on to note that the team at Rare hears every piece of criticism that is thrown at Sea of Thieves:
We hear the content criticism. People had fun, but they want more, and that’s cool. We’re going all-in on adding awesome stuff for Sea of Thieves. That’s almost our motto across the team.
More DLC has come via The Hungering Deep, and the team is still working on more content and updates. A recent update refined many of the games systems, and you can expect more as the year goes on.
