Rainbow Six Siege To Implement New Toxicity Control Measures
While it’s true that video gaming can be a fun thing to do, there is also a danger that occurs when playing online with others. Yes, when you’re playing with people you know things are often fine, but when playing with random people around the world it’s a little more complicated. Because of that, many video game communities suffer from “Toxicity”, or put more simply, players harassing other players. Many developers are trying to stop this, including Ubisoft, who are implementing new features to ensure this doesn’t continue in Rainbow Six Siege.
On their website, Ubisoft outlined just how important toxicity is in their minds, and their drive to stop it from continuing in the Rainbow Six Siege community:
“Toxicity management is a priority we will be focusing on as a team over the next few years, and we have a few different ways we plan on dealing with it. Our end goal is to track negative player behavior, manage those that behave poorly, and eventually implement features that will encourage players to improve their behavior.”
One of the first things they’re doing, and are doing right now, is monitoring chats to see what players say and how frequently they say them. If they feel like speech is being abused, players can find themselves banned for 2 days, 7 days, 15 days, or permanently banned.
To be clear on what can or cannot be said, Ubisoft highlighted a part of their Code Of Conduct, here’s a snippet:
“Any language or content deemed illegal, dangerous, threatening, abusive, obscene, vulgar, defamatory, hateful, racist, sexist, ethically offensive or constituting harassment is forbidden.”
Ubisoft will also be giving power to the players so that they can mute other players if they feel harassment is taking place. And this is only the beginning of the steps Ubisoft is taking to rid toxicity from the game. Stay tuned for more updates.
